Thi Vai International Port Co, Ltd held a launch ceremony for Thi Vai international port in Tan Thanh district of the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau on January 22.

Thi Vai international port has a total area of more than 42,000 square metres and is able to accommodate 50,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT) vessels and container ships. It has a total loading capacity of 20,000 tonnes of goods and materials each day.

Thi Vai international port project was co-financed by Japanese investors and domestic companies, namely Vung Tau Shipping and Service Company and the state-run Vietnam Steel Corporation.

Nguyen Dinh Viet, deputy head of Vietnam Maritime Administration said with a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per year, the port will contribute to fulfilling a target of hauling 101-109 million tonnes of goods per year by 2020 as approved by the Ministry of Transport.

Le Quoc Tuan, vice chairman of Ba Ria Vung Tau People’s Committee has requested that investors bolster cooperation, efficiently utilise Thi Vai international port, and deploy the next phases of the project.
