Golden plaster copies of the World Cup Trophy made in Bat Trang ceramic village in Gia Lam district of Hanoi are being sold at VND80,000 each and exported to Russia for football fans attending this year’s World Cup.

One week before the World Cup, the pottery workshop of Vuong Hong Nhat in Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district is full of plaster copies of the World Cup Trophy.

Mr Nhat makes gold trophies which look like the real one.

The first trophies were made in 2010, but they could not be sold as they did not meet aesthetic values. After several failures, hundreds of products were sold for the 2014 World Cup.

The workshop covers nearly 200sq.m next to the Hong (Red) river.

The trophies are made from gypsum plaster.

Each World Cup is coated with two layers of paint to ensure a shiny metallic finish.

Most of the orders for the World Cup trophies come from provinces such as Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh City. The plaster trophies are also shipped to Russia. The workshop produces at least 300 trophies per day, earning around VND24 million.
