Japan named as largest foreign investor in Vietnam

PSNews – Japan, with its investment of 4.808 billion USD, making up 37.2% of this year’s foreign investment in Vietnam, has topped the list of 62 countries and territories investing in the country in the first 7 months of 2017.

Accordingly, from the beginning of the year, the country has attracted 1,378 newly licensed projects with total registered capital of 12.9 billion USD, which saw a 2.1% drop in the number of projects but a 48.7% increase in registered capital from the same period of 2016.

Japan, with its investment of 4.808 billion USD, making up 37.2% of this year’s foreign investment in Vietnam, has topped the list of 62 countries and territories investing in the country in the first 7 months of 2017.

In addition, 677 projects, which had licensed in the previous years, have added on capital investment of 5.9 billion USD, up by 38.5% against the same period last year, bringing the total newly registered capital and additional capital in the first seven months of 2017 to 18.8 billion USD, up by 45.3% from the same period of 2016.

In the first 7 months, the market has also seen 2,946 transactions worth 3.1 billion USD, in which foreign investors have made contributions to firms or bought shares of firms. As a result, the total registered capital of new projects, projects with additional capital investment and foreign investment in the form of capital contribution and share purchase in the first 7 months reached 21.9 billion VND, a year-on-year 52% increase.

Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 7 months was estimated at 9.1 billion VND, up 5.8% against the same period last year.
