Dr. Lam Thai Hung, Head of the Department of Agriculture & Seafood - Tra Vinh University, said: "Out of 10 natural Kopyor coconuts, there is regularly 2 qualified".

"So the farmer took the other 8 which were not qualified to be seedlings and grow them, but it still give the similar results. Recognizing the issue, Faculty of Agriculture & Seafood has tried to take embryos (berry) of the coconuts that has wax transplant, grow them in a nutrient environment to be seedlings. It turned out to have a higher ratio of qualified Kopyor coconuts".

"Accordingly, it take 15 months to conduct a seedling including taking embryo, embryonating and growing in nutrient environment, taking to the nursery to grow till approximately 1 meter then supplying to market. The cost to produce a seedlings by this method is quite high. Currently, the Department of Agriculture & Seafood are seeking for a suitable supplier at the price of 800,000 VND/ tree ".

Mr. Thach Phu My, Chairman of the cooperative Kopyo coconut Hoa Tan, Cau Ke District (Tra Vinh), said: "Currently Kopyo coconut price is around $160,000 VND (type I) but there is always not enough product due to the scarcity of coconut.
