At the event, ASCOPE Secretary-General for the previous term Nopporn Chuchinda handed over the executive authority to the new General Secretary, Mr. Tran Hong Nam, who is the Chairman of the PVEP, representing PetroVietnam.

The appointment marks the first time PetroVietnam has assumed the role of the General Secretary of ASCOPE. This also demonstrates the deep integration and positive role of PetroVietnam and its members in the Southeast Asian oil and gas community, in parallel with the increasing position of Vietnam in the ASEAN.

ASCOPE, whose members are state gas and oil companies or national oil and gas management agencies of ASEAN countries, was established in 1975 to promote cooperation in oil and gas energy in the region. PetroVietnam has been a member of ASCOPE since 1996.

Regarding the action program of ASCOPE in the next term, Mr. Tran Hong Nam stated that the organization will focus on strengthening dialogue exchange, sharing experience and seeking opportunities for cooperation and investment among members.

ASCOPE will also prioritize the settlement of regional pressing issues such as climate change, decrease in oil and gas reserves and energy resources, transformation of the energy structure to support sustainable development, application of scientific and technological achievements and the 4.0 industry to exploitation and production of oil and gas.

That PVEP's leader was appointed as ASCOPE’s General Secretary demonstrates the high position of the corporation in the region as well as the trust of the leadership of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and the regional petroleum community in PVEP in general and its leader in particular.
