Sport and tourism serve as a driving force for development

DANANG - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said that in an international conference on tourism and sports, held on the sidelines of the 5th Asian Beach Games in Da Nang on September 24.

The event was attended by Mr. Taleb Rifai, General secretary of the World Tourism Organization and more than 200 delegates from several countries, businesses operating in tourism and sport and representatives from Vietnamese ministries and central agencies.

The ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Da Nang People’s Committee organized the conference.

 Addressing the even, Deputy PM Dam emphasized, cohesion between sport and tourism has become a very important driving force for development and has benefited a lot of countries and people.

Through combination of tourism and sport foreign visitors and Vietnamese people could have the opportunity to rise in life to explore the world and to conquer new heights together, thereby having a more meaningful life, he added.

Identifying that Vietnam’s plans is to turn tourism into a key economic sector, Deputy PM Dam expressed his expect that the experiences shared at this even would bring impetus to the country to implement new tourism development programs.

Mr. Taleb Rifai, General Secretary of the World Tourism Organization, on his part, praised Vietnam’s results achieved in various fields in recent years, particularly in the combination of tourism and sport.

Vietnam has been successful in tourism and Da Nang is a great destination of Vietnam, the world and the region, he added.
