Vietnam urged to diversify agricultural and fisheries export markets
- Coffee export soars in two months
- Wood product exporters ready to expand global market share
- Seafood export value estimated at US$844 million early 2017
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vietnam office in Can Tho (VCCI Can Tho) held a workshop “The Agricultural and Fisheries Enterprises in Mekong Delta under the Impact of Global Economic Volatility 2017” on March 7.
According to Dr. Vo Hung Dung - Director of the VCCI Can Tho, in 2015, Vietnam's tra fish export to China represented about 10% of the total export turnover of the fisheries sector. In 2016, China surpassed the EU to become Vietnam's largest tra fish importing market, second only to the United States. There is also a sign showing that China is likely to become Vietnam’s largest tra fish importing market in 2017.
A representative of a fisheries enterprise said that because of its large population, the Chinese market attracts many agricultural and aquatic products of Vietnam. However, Vietnam's exports to this country still face many difficulties due to China's tariff policies.
Besides, agricultural and aquatic products of Vietnam in China also face a tough competition from other ASEAN exporters.
Dr. Le Dang Doanh - an economic expert, member of the UN Committee for Development Policy recommended that farmers and exporters should cooperate with each other to promote a value-added chain, exporting clean and quality products to the European or Japanese market, instead of relying solely on the Chinese market.
