These days, visitors to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi had the opportunity to explore the world of elephants in the Central Highlands.

Various precious artifacts of the last “elephant king” in the Central Highlands, Y Prong Eban (1910 - 2012), and a series of photos, pictures and documentary films collected by officials and workers of the museum for an entire year are on display, meeting the need of visitors for learning about the world of elephants.

The organizers of the exhibition called “Elephants in the Central Highlands”, provide visitors with vivid artifacts, images, articles and documentary films.

Without certain background knowledge or explanation from guides, from self-studying the articles, photos and documentary films, visitors can find a lot of interesting things of the elephant world in the Central Highlands at the exhibition, including behaviors of elephants; how local people capture, domesticate and care for elephants as well as the role of elephants in economic, social and cultural lives of the people in the Central Highlands…

Mr. Vo Quang Trong, Director of the Museum of Ethnology of Vietnam said that the museum had earlier managed to organize a special exhibition space for students in Hanoi to have direct experiences in the heritages of Hanoi.

Members of staff of the museum also hope to carry out a project to use the 3D technology in displaying artifacts. Trong, however, said that the project was still under consideration due to various financial difficulties faced by the museum.

Trong also said that the use of the 3D technology in museum is popular in many countries.

This helps draw attention from the public and gives more interesting experience to the visitors.

Thanks to this technology, the museums and even the relics will no longer be the place only to provide knowledge about the past, but visitors can also participate in the story of the past, said Trong.

It is undeniable that modern technologies have had big positive impacts and attracted more public attention to the heritage. Modern technologies can also effectively aid heritage conservationists, experts and museum workers.

A high-level use of the digital technology can overcome various limitations, thus contributing to promoting values of artifacts, heritage in museums and relics.
