The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association in Dak Lak celebrated the traditional New Year Bunpimay of Laos on April 15, in Krong Na commune, Buon Don district.
Each year, from April 14-16, Laotians in the Central Highlands organize and celebrate their traditional New Year Bunpimay.
Known as the Lao water festival, this event of Lao people is believed to bring luck, peace, happiness and prosperity to all.
In the late 18th century, a number of Lao people came to Buon Don district for trading and settled down their lives there. Currently, there are more than 250 Lao ethnic people living in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
Traditionally, the Lao New Year festival, taking place during the whole 5th month of the Buddhist calendar, which features various cultural activities, contributes to preserving the Lao ethnic group’s culture in particular and enriching the folk cultural treasure of the Vietnamese people in general.
