Hanoi hosts 5th international puppetry festival
The fifth International Puppetry Festival held in Hanoi from October 8-15 sees the participation of troupes from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Wallonia-Brussels of Belgium, France, and Brazil.

Four Vietnamese art units joining the event are the Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, the Ho Chi Minh City puppetry art troupe, and the Hai Phong puppetry art troupe.
The types of puppet shows performed in the festival include water puppet, shadow puppet, black puppet, hand puppet, and mask puppet.The organising board said the gold and silver prizes will be presented to the best shows, while artists and troupes with unique creativity will receive sub-awards.
The play “Cong Chua Toc May” produced by the Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, which talks about climate change, will be a special show in the programme.
The 45-minute show is a combination of different kinds of puppetry such as water puppetry, and rode and string puppetry.
Meritorious artist Nguyen Phuong Nhi said through characters in the fairy world such as the mermaid, princess, prince, witch, and animals familiar to children like puppies, crows and pythons, the play conveys a message calling on people to join hands in combating climate change, protecting the environment and saving energy.
The excellent shows will be picked for wide performance in the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Ninh Binh.
