Every corner of Hanoi is blessed with lilies in full bloom in the early days of April.
These days the people of Hanoi can easily spot lilies on streets such as Thuy Khe, Phan Dinh Phung, Lang Ha, and Thanh Nien.
Lilies are mostly commonly grown in the Tay Tuu and Quang Ba flower villages in Hanoi. Growers must plant the bulbs of these flowers in September in order for them to bloom in time for April of the following year.
Their subtle scent coupled with elegant white petals allows the lilies to enthrall many people.
Lilies usually stand out among other colourful flowers that are for sale on the street due to their simplicity and beauty.
Street vendors must pour water on the flowers to keep them fresh all day.
Lilies at the beginning of the season have yet to fully bloom. The price for a bunch of 15 to 16 branches ranges from VND30,000 to VND50,000.
Although lilies are rather expensive during the early season, these flowers are favourites among many local people who are keen to buy them by the bunch.
