Hoang Su Phi terraced fields to be spotlighted in culture week

The northern mountainous province of Ha Giang will hold a cultural week in September to honour its Hoang Su Phi terrace fields which have been recognized as national cultural heritage.

A traditional festival of the Mong ethnic group is set to be reenacted during the cultural week themed Through the legacy of Hoang Su Phi terraced fields.

Along with a variety of sporting activities, including a paragliding competition on September 11 – 12, car and motorcycle races will be held on September 18 - 19 to entertain crowds of both locals and tourists.

Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy traditional specialties at a fair and discover the daily lives of local people through tours to Hoang Su Phi district between September 4 and 30.

The administration of Ha Giang has also announced that organisers are prepared to make changes to the schedule depending on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hoang Su Phi terraced fields were first recognised as a national relic site on September 16, 2012. The site has proved popular among many photographers and travel lovers due to its spectacular landscape.

This year’s cultural week, the sixth of its kind, is due to take place on September 18, aimed at honouring the traditional cultural values of local ethnic groups, thereby contributing to socio-economic development.
