Hue Festival 2018 kicks off with sparkling cultural colors

Taking place from April 27 to May 2 in the ancient city of Hue, the festival themed “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development” features music, dance and circus performances, street art, installation art, and films. 

The event aims to celebrate Reunification Day as well as promote Vietnamese and Hue culture and tourism and socioeconomic development in Thua Thien Hue province.

The event showcases stunning artistic performances representing the different cultures of Vietnam and dozens of countries around the world. In particular, it will present to audience members the essence of Hue’s cultural and artistic values.

The highlight of the event this time was a street festival called "Colors in Culture" in which 14 local and foreign art troupes participated on April 28. It would be held every afternoon to May 1 on many streets on both the northern and southern sides of the Huong river.

A wide range of stirring programs and community events, including exhibitions, traditional sampan racing, kite flying, calligraphy demonstrations and displays, installations, street art, conferences, workshops, an international trade fair, sporting activities, a cuisine fair, and sightseeing tours will also take place during the six days of the Festival.

According to VNA, at least 22 art troupes from countries such as Australia, India, the UK, Mongolia, France, the Philippines, Thailand and China will perform at the event.
Besides, the Hue International Cuisine Festival 2018 will be held from April 28 to May 2 at Thuong Bac Park.
There will be 20 to 30 stalls from different countries and 60 to 70 stalls from hotels and tourism companies around Vietnam.
This year’s festival has been organised in association with numerous cultural events such as 25 years since the Hue ancient citadel relic complex recognised by the UNESCO as a world cultural heritage.
The event also aims to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Hue royal court music being recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
