Hue kite festival 2019 opens in Tu Tuong park

PSNews - The Hue Kite Festival 2019 was officially kicked of on June 8, in Tu Tuong park, featuring a wide range of activities to honour the traditions of kite making. The festival will last until June 15.

The five-day festival, which was hosted by the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Department of Tourism, is set to be the highlight of Hue’s tourism activities this year.

Nguyen Dung, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee hoped that, the Hue Kite Festival will help promote the art of making and flying traditional kites in Hue, contributing to preserving a traditional folk game of Hue citadel.

Guests at the exhibition can not only view typical designs of Hue kites but can also learn the process in which their made by local artisans. A kite making and a kite-painting contest, along with folk games are scheduled to be held as part of the event.

Nguyen Van Phuc, director of the locality’s Department of Tourism, noted that the main goal of the festival is to create more events and diversify the range of tourism activities on offer for domestic and foreign travellers visiting the city.

Kite flying was once a key source of entertainment for children in the summer months. Kite making and kite flying have long been considered an art form in this central province thanks to the diversity of kites created by local artisans. Local kites come in different sizes, types and colours and often resemble animals.

The festival will last until June 15.
