PSNews – The volcanic cave system Krong No has been nominated by the Global Geoparks Network as a global geological park.

The information was announced by Ms. Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Dak Nong Provincial People’s Committee. She also said that, the result will be announced in April 2020.

The Dak Nong Geological Park covers an area of around 2,000 square kilometers, laying on 6 districts and towns. The highlight of the park, which is the Krong No volcanic cave system, was found by international scientists in 2007 with untouched and unique features.

After 7 years of research, in 2014, the Vietnam Geological Museum and the Japan Volcanic Cave Association affirmed that the Krong No volcanic cave system (also known as the Dak Nong Geological Park) is the longest and largest volcanic cave system in Southeast Asia.

The caves themselves still hide many secret about its formation, including mineral complexes, biodiversity and archaeological relics.

During the research, scientists also discovered traces of prehistoric tribes around 6,000 to 7,000 years ago and announced the exhibits in September 2018.

If selected, Krong No volcano cave system will be the third global geological parks recognized by UNESCO, after Dong Van Karst Plateau (2010) and Non Nuoc Cao Bang geological park (2018).
