Legendary golfer Greg Norman named Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador

Legendary golfer Greg Norman, known as ‘The Great White Shark’, has been appointed a new tourism ambassador of Vietnam in the 2018- 2021 tenure on October 31, according to Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony in Hanoi on October 31, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said the appointment of Gregory John Norman as an ambassador aims to acknowledge his contributions to Vietnam. With a favourable geographic position, rich natural resources and beautiful landscapes, Vietnam has many good golf courses. He hopes that the ambassador will help make Vietnam a high-profile destination on the global golf map.

As a tourism ambassador of Vietnam, Gregory John Norman
has a specific plan of action to boost tourism development in the country. He will make reports and carry out promotional activities to introduce Vietnam’s golf courses to international friends in the hope of attracting more golfers to the country. In addition, he plans to arrange golf tournaments and international events to be held in Vietnam.

Gregory John Norman, born in 1955, is an Australian professional golfer and entrepreneur. He now resides in Florida, the US.  He has won 91 international tournaments, including 20 PGA Tour tournaments and two majors: The Open Championships in 1986 and 1993. He owns many companies across the globe in an extensive business portfolio.

In Vietnam, his company Greg Norman Golf Course Design has designed a number of golf courses, most notably The Bluff Ho Tram Strip in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
