Life in narrowest alley in Hanoi

Behind the glamor of a busy streets is a very different life in the small alleys of Hanoi city. There is a line in a song that all Hanoians love because it tells a true story about Hanoi's life: "small street, small alley, it is where my home".
Alley 14 on Ngo Gach Street is seen as the narrowest in Hanoi with just less than 50cm in width. However, unbelievably, up to nearly 10 households live inside the alley.
The life in these tiny lanes in the Hanoi Old Quarter is in contrast to the modernity of local streets which are full of hotels, restaurants, cafes, markets and shops. Alley 14 on Ngo Gach Street looks like a tunnel, so people installed lamps.
People who live in such small houses have to use parking lot services.
It is also hard for two people going in the opposite direction to avoid one another.

The smallest alley in Hanoi looks like a tunnel.
Locals say these alleys were built dozens of years ago...
The small alley is home to many super-narrow lanes that have room for only one person and see almost no sunshine.
Families share around 8 square meters at the end of this alley and use the space as a kitchen and for other activities.
