Phuc Giang School woodblocks put on show

PSNews- The Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam Scientific and Cultural Center in collaboration with the Ha Tinh Provincial Museum on May 23 held an exhibition of Phuc Giang School woodblocks - a UNESCO Documentary Heritage by Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific.

On the display are nearly 100 exhibits, including documents, books, pictures, translated versions and reproductions of the woodblocks. For the first time, visitors have opportunity to see and understand the materials used in teaching and learning at Phuc Giang School (a private school founded by Nguyen Huy Oanh in Ha Tinh province in 18th century).

The Phuc Giang School woodblocks were carved by teachers of the Nguyen Huy family. They shortened Confucian classics into schoolbooks.There are still 383 copies of woodblocks, which are made of rare timber, 25-30 cm in length, 15-18 cm in width, and 1-2 cm in thickness.

The woodblocks contain autographs, prints, illustrations, and imprints confirming the copyright of five cultural notorieties, namely Nguyen Huy Tu, Nguyen Huy Oanh, Nguyen Huy Cu, Nguyen Huy Quynh.

The exhibition will run until May 30.
