Project "Light Gate" won design contest of Kilometer Zero milestone |
The Hoan Kiem District People's Committee in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Architects announced the results of the contest to design the Kilometer Zero milestone in the area around Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi, on July 20.
According to the contest’s organizers, project “Light Gate” by Pham Trung Hieu, Pham Thai Binh, Vu Binh Minh, Pham Huy Dong and Nguyen Dang Hai from Hanoi won the first prize. The second prize was awarded to Nguyen Huy Hoang from Da Nang while the third prize went to Doan Thanh Ha from Hanoi.
The contest, launched on June 3, aimed to find the best design for the Kilometer Zero milestone, one of the most important parts in the project of the construction, renovation and embellishment of the area around Hoan Kiem Lake.
The design is expected to improve the public space in the area, making it appropriate to the status and value of the historical relic and special national landscape.
The contest was open for designing organizations; schools and institutes of culture, fine arts or architecture; Vietnamese citizens including sculptors, artists, and architects or students majoring in culture, fine arts or architecture.
The winning work, project “Light Gate”, is expected to not only show geographical indication but also be highly symbolic, showcasing the cultural and historical identity of Hanoi, the capital with thousands of years of civilization.
It is also expected to be a public artwork in harmony with the landscape surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake, becoming a cultural symbol, a highlight and a unique tourist destination indispensable in the journey of exploring Hanoi of the tourists.
