A seminar focusing on the translation of literature works between Vietnamese and Russian languages took place in Moscow on September 7.

Speaking at the event, Associate Professor Elena Zubtsova from the Moscow State Linguistic University said the seminar aims to encourage Russian students who study the Vietnamese language to enter the translation sector, which is yet to receive proper attention in Russia.

Duong Thanh Truyen, chairman of the board at the Vietnamese-based Youth Publishing House, delivered a speech on the diversity and creativity of the Vietnamese language that aroused enthusiasm among participating Russian students.

Associate Professor Maxim Syunnerberg from the Moscow State University pointed to difficulties in translating texts from Russian into Vietnamese, while Vietnamese translator Nguyen Thuy Anh introduced a number of new teaching methods that could inspire students.

She suggested the establishment of an exchange club whose members support each other during their translation process from Vietnamese into Russian and vice versa.

The seminar was co-organised by the Youth Publishing House and the Moscow State Linguistic University. It was part of the publishing house’s effort to bring Vietnamese books to Vietnamese-speaking communities overseas.
