Songwriting contest on ethnic minority launched

PSNews – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on May 27 just launched a contest on writing songs on ethnic minority in and rural mountainous areas 2020. The winning songs will be performed at art shows in the localities.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) and the Vietnam Musicians' Association, will honour songs for their content, feature the unique culture and art of the ethnic groups, reflect the modern life of the people, and criticise depraved customs.

The contest aims to enhance the enjoyment of culture, promoting the songwriting movement on ethnic minorities, meeting the requirements of popular culture's development and the needs of enjoyment of culture of ethnic minorities in the current period.

The contest would also create a favorable condition for professional and non-professional authors and musicians throughout the country to explore and create works with highly ideological and aesthetic values, as well as discover and foster talents of ethnic minority groups.

The entries should be submitted to the Ministry of Culture before September 30. The award ceremony will take place in November in Hanoi. The winning songs will be performed at art shows in the localities.

There are two first prizes for winners in the north and the south, each worth VND25 million (US$1,000) in cash.
