This will be applicable to those with a valid visa or whose visa for Taiwan, the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand or the Republic of Korea expired up to 10 years ago.

According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, the new policy is also applicable to travelers from India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

Visitors who want to apply for a visa-free stay in Taiwan will need to visit the website of the Taiwan Immigration Agency to fill in their personal information. They will be granted a certificate immediately upon verification of the information provided. Visitors bearing this printed certificate can then enter Taiwan.

Failure to register for the visa will mean that the visitor is ineligible to meet the requirements of Taiwan’s visa-waiver policy.

Taiwan is currently an attractive destination for Vietnamese visitors, having welcomed some 380,000 Vietnamese tourists last year, according to statistics from the National Administration of Tourism.
