Vietnamese girl wins first prize at int’l piano contest in US

Seven-year-old Tran Bang Tam from Hanoi has recently won the first prize at the American Protégé Piano and Strings Competition 2018.

Tam, currently a student of the Newton Grammar School in Hanoi, was the second youngest contestant in the competition. As a winner, she was invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 30.

To obtain this result, Tam had practised at least two hours a day over the past more than 2 years, said piano artist and her teacher Khanh Linh.

The girl started learning the piano at four years old and has earned many domestic and international awards, including the first prize at the Grand Virtuso Prize in Italy in 2017, the third prize at the Rising Star 2018 in Germany and the first place at the Grand Virtuso Prize 2018 in Austria, among others.

This July, Tam will participate in the Sydney Eisteddfod 2018 in Australia.

The American Protégé is designed for young musicians, actors and singers, which is held annually at the Carnegie Hall concert venue.
