The Vietnam Social Insurance also informed that, by the end of 2016, 75 million Vietnamese people or 81% of population has joined the health insurance program, a 4.3 % increase compared to 2015, exceeding 2.8% of the target set by the Government.
The Vietnam Social Insurance also added that most of 18% of Vietnam’s population without health insurance cards were poor people and students.
Especially, only 74,000 people from households of agriculture, forestry, fishery and salt production or 4.5% of the average living standard grouping have so far held health insurance cards.
The reason explained by the Vietnam Social Insurance is that a number of enterprises have not seriously complied with the law on social insurance, seeking ways to evade paying health insurance for their employees. Other reason rests on the incompletion of legal documents on social and health insurance and inefficient performance of the insurance sector.
