40 billion VND to surmount sea dyke erosion in Bac Lieu
The Bac Lieu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on February 17th revealed that the main cause of embankment erosion was rising tides with strong waves and winds that hit the sea wall violently and continuously.
So far, damages of the sea dyke system have caused billions of VND. The Bac Lieu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been monitoring the situation at different landslide locations, and it will assess the overall situation after the high tide course to work out comprehensive appropriate solutions.
The Bac Lieu leadership has also required local authorities to inform local people of the upcoming high tides to avoid consequences of landslides and flooding caused by sea waves; and to mobilize local forces to be ready to support people in contingencies.
According to initial calculation, Bac Lieu needs 40 billion VND to prevent 3 sections of the embankment, namely Ganh Hao Nha Mat and Chien Tup 1 bridge, from further eroding. But it will need 210 billion VND to repair the whole local sea dyke system.
Bac Lieu Provincial leaders stressed that it is necessary to take urgent measures now to prevent the risk of further landslides leading to an embankment break. Bac Lieu is calling for support from the Government.
