The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will organise the APEC 2017 Food Security Week and a High-Level Policy Dialogue on Enhancing Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in Response to Climate Change in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, from August 18 to 25.

The event is considered as an opportunity for Vietnam’s agricultural sector to introduce and promote to the other APEC member economies, and other potential agricultural import markets of Vietnam, the agricultural activities and agricultural products.

The week is expected to attract the participation of delegates from 21 APEC members, international organisations, high-ranking leaders, policy makers and businesses.

As part of the events, 15 meetings, seminars and conferences will be organised, with the aim of promoting sustainable agriculture and fishery development by applying advanced science and technology in production management and the sustainable use of natural resources, in addition to controlling food waste in the supply chain.

By the end of Food Security Week, the APEC Ministers in charge of agriculture will adopt the ‘Can Tho Declaration on enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change’ as a basis for the implementation of regional cooperation in order to ensure food security in the context of increasingly complex climate change.
