PSNews - The Ministry of Finance and Vietnam Customs on December 11 officially put into operation the Vietnam Automated System for Seaport Customs Management (VASSCM).

According to the General Director of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can, the system is automatically integrated with the national single-window system in order to effectively use the e-Manifest, the VNACCS/VCIS, and E-Custom (V5) for inspection and monitoring.

Therefore, the customs agencies could monitor imports and exports at seaports and warehouses and track the history of consignments after they arrive in Vietnam.

The system helps officials at State agencies reduce manual labor and paperwork.

Besides, the system continuously updates firms at seaports on full information about customs clearance statuses from the customs office, thus minimizing risks in delivery and receipt procedures.

The 24/24 information exchange and processing mechanism of the VASSCM also enables import-export enterprises to hold the initiative in delivering goods at the port, regardless of the customs office's working time.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Loc, Head of the Hai Phong's Customs Department said, since the pilot implementation on August 15,  the clearance time for port entry or arrival is only 2 minutes per declaration turn. With around 1.3 million declaration turns per a year in Hai Phong, the total clearance time can be reduced by 40,000 hours thanks to the VASSCM.

More important, VASSCM also helps enterprises increase business and production efficiency, and therefore improve their competitiveness.
