Bac Giang, worst hit hotspot, records an additional 30 COVID-19 cases

Bac Giang remains the country’s largest COVID-19 hotspot, recording 30 out of 40 more cases announced by the Ministry of Health on May 28 morning.

The patients tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus during their stay in lockdown areas closely linked to outbreaks at industrial parks.
The locality, which is close to Hanoi capital, has confirmed nearly 1,700 cases, or more than half the total number of new COVID-19 cases logged in Vietnam since the virus recurred a month ago.The MoH said it is making every effort to halt the spread of the virus in Bac Giang, including kick-starting a quick antigen testing campaign to early detect virus carriers in lockdown areas.
It has also launched a vaccination drive targeting employees at industrial parks as directed by the Prime Minister, alongside frontline forces such as healthcare workers, soldiers, policemen and on-duty officials at high-risk areas.
A newly-shaped field hospital capable of receiving 620 patients has been put into operation. On May 27 evening it received more than 500 COVID-19 patients transferred from local hospitals for medical surveillance and treatment.
Elsewhere, eight more cases were confirmed in Lang Son, and one each in Thai Binh and Long An.
Most cases in Lang Son were recorded in the community. They tested positive after showing virus-like symptoms such as a cough, shortness of breath or high temperatures.
Meanwhile, Long An, a locality in southern Vietnam, documented the first case. The 45-year-old man, a chef at a five-star hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, had come into contact with a COVID-19 patient linked to the outbreak at the Renaissance Mission Church in HCM City.
According to the 06.00am COVID-19 update by the MoH on May 28 Vietnam has logged 3,294 COVID-19 in more than 30 cities and provinces since the virus resurged in late April.
