The Ministry of Health on the afternoon of April 3 reported that four more people, including three foreign citizens, have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while a total of 85 patients have fully recovered and received discharge from hospital.

Two out of the three foreign patients are British citizens who are thought to have contracted the virus during their stay in Vietnam.

Both UK citizens on March 14 visited and met friends at Buddha Bar in Ho Chi Minh City – a hotspot where more than 10 COVID-19 visitors, mostly foreigners, had been detected.

Subsequent tests results by the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Tropical Diseases show both citizens have been infected with the coronavirus.

They remain in stable health condition and are being placed in quarantine for observation and treatment at HCM City’s Cu Chi field hospital.

Meanwhile, a Swedish citizen has been exposed to COVID-19 infection during his stay in Vietnam.

The 64-year-old man, who suffers from acute leukemia, entered Vietnam in late December 2019 and travelled to many places of interest across Vietnam before returning to Hanoi on March 22 and staying there until present.

He got a number of illnesses, including nosebleeds, and were admitted to several medical centres in Hanoi for treatment.

On April 1, he tested positive for the SARS-CoV2 virus that causes the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Swedish patient was then transported to Hanoi-based Central Hospital of Tropical Diseases No2 for isolation and treatment.

The fourth patient, a female Vietnamese citizen, 69, is believed to have been infected with the virus before entering Vietnam from abroad.

The woman boarded Vietnam Airlines flight VN2106 from Paris of COVID-19 hit France and landed at HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 18.

Upon her arrival, the woman was immediately transported to a quarantine camp in the city, and subsequent tests later proved she was carrying the SARS-CoV 2 virus.

As of 06.00pm on April 3, Vietnam has recorded 237 COVID-19 cases, with no fatalities. A total of 86 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery. On April 3 alone, 11 patients received discharge from hospital, with 3 in Ho Chi Minh City, 7 in Binh Thuan and 1 Da Nang.

The remaining 151 COVID-19 patients are being treated at 21 medical facilities across the country. Most of them remain in stable health condition. 37 patients have tested negative for the virus while five patients are receiving intensive care.

At present Hanoi tops the list of COVID-19 affected localities with 106 cases confirmed. It was followed by HCM City with 53 cases.
