The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced in its 12.00am COVID-19 update that an additional 40 Vietnamese people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the past six hours.

A quick antigen testing campaign is underway in Bac Giang hotspot to halt virus spread.

Bac Giang province, the country’s largest COVID-19 hotspot, recorded 27 more cases at industrial parks which remain in lockdown.

Notably, according to the provincial Centre for Diseases Control, three local healthcare workers were diagnosed with the virus during their sampling.

Bac Giang is the hardest hit locality in with, with its tally reaching nearly 1,500 cases since the virus recurred in late April.

The MoH has dispatched a contingent of experienced doctors from Da Nang, Hai Duong and Vinh Phuc to assist the northern locality with contact tracing, extensive testing and treatment.

As daily caseload has hit hundreds, the MoH decided to carry out the quick antigen testing campaign in Bac Giang, starting from May 26, in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus.

Elsewhere, six more positive cases were detected in Hanoi, four in Bac Ninh and one each in Dien Bien and Hai Duong.

Earlier in its morning update, the MoH logged an additional 80 community infections, including 55 in Bac Giang.
