The Vietnam Youth Union in collaboration with the National Traffic Safety Committee and Unilever Vietnam on September 12 launched a campaign to promote the use of qualified helmets among Vietnamese people.

The campaign’s organizing committee will coordinate with the Hanoi city’s Youth Union and the Ho Chi Minh city’s Youth Union (many the Vietnamese universities located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) to organize 6 festivals to “welcome new students" and provide them with up to 2,000 standard helmets.

In addition, a poster design contest themed "Whether or not to wear a helmet when riding a bike" and many social media activities will also be held to attract Vietnamese young people to the campaign.

Motorbikes, popular means of transportation in Vietnam, are involved in 70 per cent of the total 30,000 traffic accidents in the country in 2013.

As helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries in road accidents, 30 per cent of which lead to death, Vietnam has required all motorbike users to wear a helmet on the road since 2007.
