A ceremony took place in Hanoi on August 27 to celebrate the centenary of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said Vietnam and the ILO have collaborated to realise joint conceptions shared between ILO founders and  President Ho Chi Minh on social justice and sustainable employment for universal peace and happiness.

He said in the context of the fourth industrial revolution and labour mobility trend, Vietnam has determined to focus on educational reform, particularly in human resources training, and boost workers’ capacity in response to new changes and demands in the market.

Dam stressed the Vietnamese Government considers developing the human resources and ensuring sustainable employment a fundamental factor for completing the socialist-oriented market economy and tapping the potential of the country’s golden population period.

He stated that Vietnam always prioritises the conduction of social welfare policies to create an attractive workforce during its global integration process.

Joining the ILO in 1992, Vietnam is committed to respecting, promoting and applying international labour standards in the ILO’s 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in line with the nation’s growth conditions.

Vietnam has so far ratified 24 ILO conventions. Most recently, the National Assembly adopted the organisation’s Convention 98 on the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining at its 7th session in June this year.
