Criminal proceedings commenced for multiple-death case in Hanoi

The investigation agency under Hanoi police on September 18 issued a decision to institute a criminal case for the death of seven people following a music gala at Hanoi’s West Lake Water Park on September 16.

Under the case, investigation will be launched into the offence of “concealment of illegal use of narcotic substances” and “persuading or inciting others to use narcotic substances” under Articles 256 and 258 of the Penal Code.
Besides the seven dead victims, three others were brought to hospital in a coma after attending the Trip to The Moon music gala organized by the A Chau company at the water park in Hanoi’s Tay Ho district.Initial testing showed all the dead victims tested positive to narcotic.
The Hanoi police said the investigation agency, in coordination with relevant units of the municipal police, the procuracy and policy of Tay Ho district, immediately conducted an examination of the site.
Deputy director of the municipal police Colonel Nguyen Van Vien said at a press briefing on September 17 that the investigation agency had launched urgent search and seized material evidence related to the case. The police found many funky balls and some substances suspected to be narcotics at the site of the music gala.
