Dong Thap seeks extra fund from Government to deal with landslide

PSNews – The Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee on May 5th asked the Government for 82 billion VND from the National Target Program to accelerate the relocation process of households in landslide, flooded and border areas.

Dong Thap proposed the Prime Minister to approve its program to build residential areas in support of local households living in landslide-prone areas along rivers, in 2016-2020 period.

Specifically, the province asked to extend the Tien River embankment project by another 2,300m downstream to Nguyen Van Tiep Canal.

Besides, Dong Thap is building a safety plan for Highway 30 – the arterial route connecting Cao Lanh and Cambodia at risk of landslide.

The province also conducted a survey to evaluate the Tien River section from Cho Moi district (An Giang province) to Thanh Binh district (Dong Thap province) and seek solutions to prevent landslides as well as protect residents and Highway 30.

According to the report of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, recently, landslides occurred continuously in 45 communes, wards, towns and cities of Dong Thap province. Since early April, in the area of Binh Hoa hamlet (Binh Thanh commune), 4 serious landslide incidents with 210m long and a total landslide area of 3,250 m2 happened.

On April 28th, Dong Thap had to promulgated a landslide emergency along the Tien River’s bank section of Binh Hoa hamlet and immediately built a residential area in Binh Thanh commune to relocate households in landslide areas to the safe area.
