A flash flood occurred on October 22 in Ban Ria commune, Quang Binh district, the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, after long-lasting downpours, killing one man and leaving his son missing.

The flood also injured two people and swept away six houses, damaged dozens of others, and killed tens of head of cattle.

In addition, it also destroyed many sections of National Highway No.279, making Ban Ria commune isolated, and damaged Ban Ria Primary and Secondary Schools.

After receiving the information, leaders of the Quang Binh district People’s Committee came to Ban Ria and asked the commune and relevant offices to search for the missing, bring locals whose houses were swept away or destroyed to a safer place, and soon resume the operation of the route leading to the commune.

The district’s Steering Board on Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue decided to provide 10 million VND (427 USD) for the family of the deceased and missing victims, and 3 million VND for each household whose home was swept away.
