Free rides end, Hanoi’s BRT still attracts commuters

PSNews - Commuters in Hanoi still continue using BRT although they have started paying bus fares from February 6, after a month of free rides, according to the Hanoi’s BRT project manager.

The Hanoi’s BRT manager reported that, on February 7 morning, the system carried out 183 buses, serving nearly 7,000 passengers, including 4,200 passengers with one-time tickets and 2,600 passengers with monthly tickets, up by nearly 29.6% percent compared to two days ago when BRT had still served for free.

On the first day imposing charges, a large numbers of passengers were seen at the bus stops of Kim Ma; Hoang Dao Thuy; Nguyen Tuan; An Hung and Yen Nghia.

According to the BRT’s manager, the BRT during January had operated 9,300 buses, of which 98% departed on time. In the first month of free of charge operation, nearly 376.000 people travelled on the BRT.

Regarding to fares, Director of the Hanoi urban Transport Management Nguyen Hoang Hai said that the monthly concession fares are 55,000 VND for a fixed route, and 100,000 VND for multi-routes while normal fares are 100,000 VND and 200,000 VND, respectively.
