The Ministry of Health confirmed 175 further positive COVID-19 cases, including five imported ones at midday on June 24, with Ho Chi Minh City suffering the highest number of infections at 151.

The majority of the new cases in Ho Chi Minh City had come into contact with confirmed patients or are linked to previous outbreaks and are currently under epidemiological investigation.

The cases detected in other provinces are either F1 contacts of confirmed patients or were detected in areas under lockdown, with individual cases having links to various industrial parks.

In total, 143 of the cases were recorded in quarantine sites or in areas currently in lockdown.

At present, a total of 16,075 domestic infections and 1,827 imported COVID-19 cases have been registered in the nation. The number of new domestic cases during the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic has now reached 14,505.

Recent times has seen Ho Chi Minh City continue to see a sharp increase in the number of fresh local infections, with some COVID-19 patients progressing very quickly, leading to respiratory failure and in some circumstances, death.

The municipal Department of Health has therefore sent a dispatch to COVID-19 treatment units requesting that they closely monitor the progress of patients.

As of July 1, more than 3.8 million people have now received COVID-19 vaccine shots, including over 204,000 people who have been vaccinated with full two doses of the vaccine.

Most notably, 39,537 people were inoculated against COVID-19 on July 1 alone.
