HCM City reopens three wet markets

The Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Department of Industry and Trade on July 19 confirmed that, three local wet markets have reopened to ease pressure on supermarkets. 

According to Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the Municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the Department is considering reopening multiple wet markets, identified as safe, to ensure adequate and prompt supply of necessities and effective fight against COVID-19.

Priority is given to those selling fresh foods, vegetables and fruits, Phuong said. Therefore, the new three wet markets reopened are Phu Tho market (District 11), An Dong market (District 5), and Kien Thanh market (Binh Tan District). 

He also noted that, 5K message must be followed and direct contact must be minimized between customers and shopkeepers at these wet market. Prices should also remain steady. 

Markets that cannot meet standards for Covid-19 prevention at their current location can use alternate spaces to ensure that safety for both vendors and market goers.

About 40 wet markets will be soon made available again if all requirements are met, Phuong shared.
