Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong has asked a public service company to draw up a scheme to "Provide shuttle-bus services for public officials and workers" in May 2017 and submit to the city leadership for further consideration.
The project does not include the city’s key position holders, who still have state-own cars serviced for public business trips.
The project requires all the city’s agencies, districts’ offices and organizations to return all State-own cars managed by them to the management center, which will provide transportation services for them when they want to. The proceeds from the transportation services will be transferred to the city’s budget.
According to the Municipal People's Committee, this project aims to strictly control the use of State-own cars and to reduce the cost of vehicle management at each unit.
In October 2016, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen suggested all city’s agencies should not buy new cars for public purposes, but rent them, contributing to saving the budget.
