Hai Phong holds friendship exchange with Southeast Asian students

A friendship exchange with Lao, Thai and Myanmar students pursuing education in the northern port city of Hai Phong was held in the locality on April 11.

The event was meant to celebrate the traditional New Year of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar which falls on April 13-16, thus contributing to raising mutual understanding of customs and culture of each nation and fostering special friendship between Vietnam and the three countries.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thanh said the traditional New Year festival known as Bunpimay in Laos, Songkran in Thailand and Thingyan in Myanmar is a chance for people in each country to show their love and respect as well as the sense of responsibility for preserving and upholding the traditional culture and arts.He wished Laos, Thailand and Myanmar sustainable development and urged Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Myanmar students to become cultural ambassadors to nurture the ties among countries founded by generations of leaders and people.
Participants at the event were treated to traditional music and dance performances staged by students.
