The process of unloading the train carriages at the Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port was expected to take about 4-5 hours. The transfer of the train to the depot will take place on Sunday and Monday night, officials said. The train will be publicly displayed next month at the S1 station on Road 32, 15 kilometers from downtown Hanoi.

The arrival in Vietnam of the first metro, assembled at the Alstom plant in Valenciennes, France, marks an important step in the success of this project.

The train’s red and green colour scheme draws inspiration from the dragon fruit and Vietnam’s baby rice fields. The carriages are installed with wide doors for convenient boaring and disembarking, as well as special seating for disabled people. The train’s shell is made from light aluminum alloy.

Previously, the People’s Committee of Hanoi and France’s Alstom signed an MoU about the introduction of the first train in October 2019.

Metro Line No. 3 (Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station) will be 12.5km long. The construction of 8.5km elevated section is planned to be finished in April 2021 and the remaining 4km underground line will be opened in December 2022.

99 per cent of the elevated section has been finished while 61 per cent of the underground section is complete. The project has a total investment capital of VND30.1 trillion ($1.3 billion) comes from official development assistance from the French Development Agency and loans from the French government.

The urban railway line No 3, connecting Nhon area and Hanoi Station, will run through Nam Tu Liem, Bac Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Ba Dinh, Dong Da and Hoan Kiem districts.
