On the osscasion, all officials working at the Hanoi city's Red Cross voluntarily registered to donate their tissues and organs.
Vietnam is in a high need for donated organs and tissues. About 16,000 patients are suffering from heart, kidney, liver and lung diseases and more than 6,000 blind people are awaiting eye donation, according to the Ministry of Health.
Vietnamese people are generally not very aware of organ and tissue donation, leading to a shortage of organs and tissues for transplanting.
