Hanoi will arrange over VND72 trillion (US$3.24 billion) to implement a programme on developing agriculture, building new-style rural areas, and improving quality of local life in 2016-2020.

The programme is designed by the municipal Party’s Committee.

The Hanoi branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies will provide about VND200 billion (nearly US$8.9 million) each year in the form of loans with preferential interest rates to farmers and city-based businesses operating in agricultural and rural development.

Urban districts and agencies in the city are requested to assist with the construction of socio-economic infrastructure and environmental protection projects in rural areas, particularly remote and ethnic minority areas.

According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of September 2016, Hanoi had 212 new-style rural communes, an increase of 11 communes from 2015.
