Hanoi to decorate 26 railway arches with murals
According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Cong, the stone arches along the Long Bien bridge section were built and put into operation in 1902 together with the Long Bien bridge. There are 127 arches running along Phung Hung and Gam Cau street to Long Bien bridge.
After more than100 years since being put into operation, some railway arches have been weathered with many cracks on the top, causing dangers to the safety of the trains.
Therefore, from 1969 to 1983, Vietnam Railway Corporation has reinforced 125/127 stone arches.
Regarding the deployment of murals decoration on 26 arches from the Le Van Linh - Phung Hung junction to Hang Cot Street, the Ministry of Transport has approved the Hanoi People's Committee's proposal to paint murals on 26 railway arches without changing the shape and size or affecting the arches' structure.
The Hanoi People's Committee also have to prepare measures to reinforce the load bearing structure of the bridge to ensure the bearing capacity.
