PSNews - Hanoi City will repair its existing drainage system and install 15 new cameras to monitor prone-flood locations before the rainy season.

Mr. Chu Phu My, Deputy Head of the Natural Disaster Prevention Committee of Hanoi City said that Hanoi will soon install 15 monitoring cameras and step by step build a simulation system of regular flooding locations to find out solutions to minimize waterlogging.

The Committee also urged relevant working teams and Hanoi Drainage Company to be on round-clock duty to drain off rainwater when there is heavy rain. The Committee will also set up hotlines to receive information on waterlogging so as to respond to the situations.

The Hanoi authority has also instructed relevant sectors to prepare function vehicles and mobile pumps for situations of waterlogging.

Currently, Hanoi has just completed the construction of water drainage systems in the inner city within the area of the To Lich, Lo, Set and Kim Nguu rivers, which covers 77.5 square kilometers. These drainage systems can sustain a rain with 300 millimeters of rainfall in 2 days.

Meanwhile, the new urban areas still suffer from flooding when a heavy rain occurs. This is because of rapid urbanization while the drainage system has not been synchronously invested in accordance with the approved plans.
