The city of Hanoi has unveiled plans to give the iconic Nhat Tan Bridge a new look and outfit it with thousands of LED lights that will display a variety of artistically vivid undulating designs nightly.

The utilitarian bridge is a striking landmark in the capital city and Hanoi officials hope the kinetic light project will change the perception of the bridge and help boost tourism to the area.

The city has signed a contract with Phillips based out of the Netherlands to design and install the lighting system.

At the signing ceremony, Nguyen Duc Chung, chair of Hanoi People’s Committee said the new lighting system would be energy efficient to cut down on operating costs and equipped with smart technology.

The contract calls for the system to be installed by April 30.
