However, the plan will depend on the cooperation and support from volunteers and competent agencies, he underscored.
NANOGEN Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Company has developed the Nanocovax vaccine and started selecting volunteers for human trials of the vaccine on December 10.
The company has prepared materials to produce 30 million to 50 million doses after the Nanocovax vaccine is proved to be safe and effective via the results of human trials.
The price of a Nanocovax vaccine dose is expected to be 120,000 VND (about US$ 5).
“If phase 1 and phase 2 of human trials go smoothly, we will propose the Ministry of Heath to open a multinational research center for phase 3 of the trial with the participation of 1,500 to 10,000 volunteers”, the NANOGEN Chairman said.
According to Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training under the Ministry of Health, the volunteer’s age of phase 2 and 3 may range from under 12 to over 60.
He also stressed that the success of a vaccine depends on not only on the manufacturer, researcher or manager but also on support of the community.
Therefore, he called on the community to join effort to complete all phases of the clinical trial program with absolute safety, efficiency and success so that the company can soon produce a “Made in Vietnam” COVID-19 vaccine to serve the community.
