Indonesia and Vietnam promote potentials in coal trading

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Hanoi on Friday, 03 May organized a Business Forum entitled: “Indonesia – Vietnam Potentials in Coal Trading” in Pullman Hotel Hanoi.

The bilateral relation between Indonesia and Vietnam have increased significantly since the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement in 2013. The total volume of bilateral trade gained US $ 8.45 billion in 2018 respectively. The two Leaders have committed to reach the bilateral trade volume of US $ 10 billion in 2020. 

Presently one of the strongest commodities from Indonesia to Vietnam is coal trading. In the first three month of 2019, the total coal import of Vietnam is 9,385, 570 ton increase of 249% comparing to the same period last year, in which 3,719,909 ton imported from Indonesia increase of 185% comparing to the same period last year. 

In 2018, the total amount coal imported by Vietnam was 22,857,153 tons in which around 50% came from Indonesia with the amount of 11,165,157 ton.

Taking this opportunity, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Hanoi organized a Business Forum entitled: “Indonesia – Vietnam Potentials in Coal Trading”. The Business forum was held in Pullman Hotel Hanoi on Friday, 03 May 2019.

The Forum was attended by 14 Indonesian coal associations and companies. From the Vietnamese side, 26 companies interested in doing business with Indonesia, representatives from Vietnamese coal related ministries and Vietnamese Media.

H.E. Mr. Ibnu Hadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Vietnam delivered its opening remarks, following by another speech by representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, Indonesian Coal Association, and presentations from Indonesian and Vietnamese companies. After the Questions and Answers session, the Business men from two side had a Business matching to find opportunities on a new cooperation.

This Business forum is an effort of the Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi to promote the bilateral trade between the two countries in line with the target of reaching the bilateral trade volume of US $ 10 billion in 2020.
