PSNews - Japan's ambassador to Vietnam has visited the family of the Vietnamese girl murdered in Japan and informed the girl’s dad of the arrest of a suspect.

During the short visit on April 14 to the girl’s house in Hung Yen province, Ambassador Kunio Umeda told the family that the Japanese police had arrested a suspect.

Mr. Le Van Hao (the girl’s father) said, before receiving the Ambassador, his family had received a phone from the Japanese authorities, saying the suspect had pleaded not guilty.

"We hope that the Japanese police will determine the murderer(s) soon. If the person who has just been arrested is the one who murdered my daughter, I hope they would clarify if he had any accomplices," said Mr. Hao.

Nguyen Thi Toan (the girl’s grandmother) said:  "I don’t know if my son could live a secure life there in Japan as the suspect’s house is not far from his house”.

The old woman in her 70s urged authorities of both countries, especially Japan, to quickly investigate the case and seriously punish the murder of her granddaughter.

On April 14, the Japanese police arrested a 46-year-old male neighbor of the girl after DNA samples collected from the scene matched his.

This person is also the president of the parents’ organization of Mutsumi Primary School No. 2, where the girl learned. He, according to Japanese investigators, volunteered to take care of school students on their way to school every day.

The 9-year-old girl went missing on the morning of March 24 after leaving home for school. Her body was discovered two days later 10km far from her house, in the grass near a drainage canal, without clothing.

On March 27, the girl’s red backpack and clothing were found along the banks of the Tone River in Bando city, Ibaraki province.

The Japanese police identified that the girl died from suffocation caused by strangulation with minor injuries on both arms and legs.
