Three members of a family in Suoi Cat commune, Khanh Hoa province died on December 30 in a house collapse caused by a landslide which was triggered by continuous rains.

According to Luong Duc Hue, Chairman of the Suot Cat Commune People’s Committee, two of the five-member family of Ho Tan Luc in Khanh Thanh Nam village survived and escaped the collapsed house.

Rainfall averaging 30-50 mm hit Khanh Hoa on December 29 and 30 and 13 irrigation reservoirs in the province had to discharge their water in an attempt to protect their safety and be ready to store water from forecast upcoming torrential rains.

Meanwhile, in the central province of Phu Yen, floods swept away a man who was crossing Phuc Loc spillway in Xuan Quang 3 commune on the night of December 29.

The body of the victim, Nguyen Van Dong, was found on December 30.

As floods on rivers in Phu Yen are rising, irrigation and hydro-power reservoirs continue to discharge their water, causing flooding in some roads and residential areas in Xuan Son Bac and Xuan Quang 3 communes.

Tran Huu The, Vice Chairman of the Phu Yen People’s Committee, said the province instructed localities to organize round-the-clock response teams and prepare vehicles and forces to deal with weather complexities.
